What I've Learned From Stress On Wednesdays
October 8, 2008 - 9:11am by ThomasIt's easy at the middle of the week to begin looking toward the weekend. Sometimes that's an easy way to forget about stress. Sometimes it's because we feel there is so much more to do on the weekend than during the week, so we begin to skip to the weekend in our minds. Thursday becomes the new Friday, Friday becomes part of the weekend...sometimes this is so we can relax more---but usually this is done so that we can cram more stuff into our schedule.
Don't cram. Let the week play out. Enjoy Thursday and Friday. Enjoy Wednesday for Pete's sake. Why are we in a rush to get through a week. We need to stop working for the weekend and work for worship and vocation. Our vocation sometimes involves making enough for end's meet. But it contains all we do. Go and do great things, today, tomorrow, and the next day. The weekend will come soon enough without rushing to get there.
As part of the HigherCallings blog network, I have been made keen to what others are doing in the blogosphere concerning work and faith. This week Robert Hzurek of Middle Zone Musings is leading a series on What I've Learned From Stress. It's kind of like a synchroblog of sorts. If you blog, feel free to join in too. I have decided to write a post on each day and how stress relates to it.

I don't think I've ever noticed it before, but you're right, Thomas. Along about now I'm already thinking of this weekend! Thanks for the reminder, and I'll try to do better now, I promise!
Cheers!
Again, I'm immersed in my life so don't distinguish between weekdays and weekends. I don't believe in mentally rushing ahead, and that's why I have my Possibility List rather than To Do list. My aim is to enjoy the process. My secret of happiness is to ask myself every day: (1) What's good about my life? (2) What needs to be done? (3) How can I get this done and enjoy the process? I can't always achieve #3, but I make a good stab at it!
