Prayer for the Seventeenth Week After Pentecost
Joy, joy, joy—it is all joy
in the morning light,
beside the stillness.
Come in the wind, O Lord.
Breathe. Fill our lungs with
your goodness. Cover all
creation with your power.
Rejoice, rejoice!—it is good
in the morning.
Amen
Prayer for the Sixteenth Week After Pentecost
God Almighty,
Lord of heaven and earth,
You have called us to follow you in your mission,
to build your kingdom,
to show grace, mercy and compassion to others.
Give us the strength this day to be Christ to all.
Amen
Prayer for the Fifteenth Week After Pentecost
God Almighty,
Keeper of our deepest thoughts and desires,
you know of all that is good and evil in our hearts.
You graciously bear our suffering and
lead our multitudes in joyous celebration.
Give to us this day the word that is already
written on our hearts, that we may do your will
and serve you always, by the power of your Son,
Jesus Christ, and the mercy and grace of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
Prayer for the Fourteenth Week After Pentecost
God Almighty,
We are humbled by you who has started a good work in us
and has been faithful to complete it.
Give us the strength to pursue your will with all our hearts and minds,
and establish the labor of our hands, that your kingdom come,
and your will be done in all places.
Amen
Prayer for the Thirteenth Week After Pentecost
This prayer was the invocation for our service yesterday to remember the mourning and loss of September 11th.
God Almighty,
We come to you for comfort.
We are saddened by grief, by pain, by bitter memories, by the sting of death.
We pray to you Christ our King and remember how you comforted your friends Mary and Martha in their time of deep grief at the death of their brother Lazarus, and even more how you yourself wept. We pray to you to grieve along with us and comfort us.
More than this, we pray to you Christ our King because you have conquered death. You who raised Lazarus from the dead and wiped away the tears of Mary and Martha were yourself raised from the dead. Steady our hearts with the gospel, that you have claimed victory over death, crushed the pain of sin and evil, and given us the hope of everlasting life.
We pray to you Holy Spirit, breath of life, to give us power to comfort others as we are comforted. Through your power may we be the hands and feet and tears of Christ. Give us strength to be light in the presence of a great and lingering darkness. Give us the mercy and love to forgive, that we may be forgiven. Give us hope that your kingdom will come fully in our midst, that there will be new heavens and new earth, and that we will live forever in a place where tears and grief are no longer welcome, but only the joy of life everlasting.
Amen
Prayer for the Twelfth Week After Pentecost
God Almighty,
We look alone to you for our salvation.
It can not come from our own strength or our own spiritual devices.
Give us your strength that we may continually work out our salvation before you and before our neighbor.
Establish the work of our hands as good fruit; a pleasing offering to you.
Amen
