Five Great Years

My wife and I got back this weekend from a little getaway to a bed & breakfast to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. We were able to go hiking and visit an herb farm, and I got my customary rack of lamb…as in every time Sarah and Thomas go out for a fancy dinner Thomas always gets rack of lamb. I feel kind of obligated after eight years of romantic dinners to order rack of lamb if it’s on the menu, otherwise I’ll ruin the mood.

Anyways, over the past five years Sarah and I have both earned degrees; Sarah has her beloved Bachelors in Anthropology and I received my Masters in English. Sarah has been a multi-talented, calm and collected children’s ministry leader at church and I have started teaching at the college level as an adjunct!  We’ve accomplished a lot!

What’s more is what we’ve accomplished in the day to day. We’ve started our garden for the fourth year. We’ve started canning, pickling, baking and improved our eating and cooking. At the same time, we’ve been able to enjoy our walks and romping through the woods (including stumbling into a humongous thorn thicket once that we just barely escaped!).

To cap it off, this weekend we were at a cookout and someone came and hugged Sarah to say congratulations, and someone we hadn’t met before thought we were newlyweds, instead of expecting (she’s five months now but people still can’t tell—which causes both curiosity and residual resentment in women), so we’ve still got that newlyweds look I guess, which is another way of saying we don’t look weary of each other.

To five more years!

    Thomas, Sarah, congrats. Here are some words of wisdom from prophet of years gone by:

    This life is the life I choose;
    This life is the best I’ll ever have!
    I wouldn’t have it any other way–
    This life is all my life.
