Lenten Prayer: Prayer for the Filling of the Holy Spirit

O Lord, have you left us in the desert to be tempted, without food and without water?

Lord we ask that your body be our sustanance, that we remember men and women cannot live on bread alone but must live upon every word of God, which is you, our Messiah.  Save us from the evil one, from those who lurk and steal, jumping over the fence to steal the sheep.

For you are our gate, O Lord, so lead us not into temptation, deliver us from all evil, and fill us with the hope and joy of your resurrection, for you say, "I will send my spirit to you."

Pray you God, send your Spirit now, your Helper, and fill us with joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and the greatest of these, love; so that we may not be clanging cymbals or a loud gong but your servants.

May we rejoice in the filling of your Spirit and go forth not to serve ourselves but to serve others, for you are our mighty counselor, filling us with the greatest gift in the world: love.

Let it be so.
